We are a group of friends who seek to fill the cultural vacuum that exists in Gaza by organizing activities that we enjoy doing. We believe that change starts with individuals, which is why we seek to change ourselves, our friends, and to count on slow -but sure- change to spread through our social networks. We also count on ourselves and are independent: we try to organize our activities with minimal expenses and resources (all of our events are generously hosted by Almat'haf Hotel www.almathaf.ps) Our long term vision is to be part of a society that values knowledge and encourages endeavors that aim at spreading it. Along the way, a better image of Gaza (an image that exists, but has been ignored for so long), will replace the city's negative stereotypical image. Our name, Diwan, in Palestinian culture is the guesthouse of families, where relatives and friends gather to talk and discuss issues. Our Diwan is a venue for exchanging and discussing ideas, thoughts and knowledge. We also hope that the idea of "Diwan Ghazza" will inspire our friends around Palestine into creating "Diwans" in other Palestinian cities in an effort to reach out to society on a larger scale.
